Etta James Rocks San Francisco

Etta James rocked the house last night at San Francisco's famed Filmore Auditorium.

Her 70th birthday is Jan.25th 2008 {Congratulations Etta!
don't lose any more weight, there'll be Ų left of you

She is no stranger to this city!
I was lucky enough to see her here 30 years ago

I saw her sharing the stage with Smokey Robinson and Little Anthony in 1965 at a venue in Oakland.

Last night's crowd was clapping and stamping their feet as she made her way to the center of the stage.
She is still able to do her signature song, "At Last" {it takes a lot to muster all those emotions.
She got the audience into a "sing-a-long" of Janis Joplin's Piece of My Heart.
I saw Janis do that song and it made me sad.
Like Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow", quote Liza Minnelli: "that song's been done."

The smell of weed was wafting through the room Smile
The dance floor seemed to come alive and the sound could be felt through one's feet.
I wanted to beat the sound person about the head for his/her's lack of attention to the sound level!
The amplifiers were turned up so loud it caused a very distracting rumbling noise that vibrated the air like an earthquake!
I want to hear her but I want to be able to hear tomorrow too!

I've seen Pearl Bailey, Lena Horne, Diana Ross and the Supremes
take it from me, Etta James is a must see.
The songs she sung that I will go buy: "Damn Your Ass" and "Sugar On The Floor"

She came on some time after ten p.m. bringing with her a full glass of red wine.
After each song she'd take a sip. By the 10-11th song her glass became empty and I knew that meant the end of the evening.
The band was playing enthusiastically as she left the stage then she stopped and gave a great big hug to the 6 ft. tall speaker.
The house lights came on but the audience yelled and clapped till she came back out [with a 1/2 glass of red wine] and sang two more songs.

I really gotta thank this woman for her dedication.
At 1 o'clock in the morning I got to take my tired ass home to my own bed
while she had to sleep in a bus on the road to another state, another venue.

Toasting to you Etta James

Hi Npalmtree! Great to see u!
c'mon out to s.f. and go to the Filmore!
I was surprised it is still there!
I didn't actually see anyone light anything
I was scared to but I could see the smoke and smell it,
it weren't tobacco :bong:
I admit, standing up for 3-4 hours wasn't without pain.

It'd been years for me too.
The last time I was at the Filmore, Creedence Clearwater was singing their new song, Suzie-Q

The place I went to in 2001 to see Patti Labelle is an outdoor venue in Concord with seats and no dancing.

the dog is sick again, I have to get to the vet this morning.
He was diagnosed with ecoli about two weeks ago
They only kept him on antibiotics for ten days, now he is sick again!
Blood in his stool this time.

Purush! are you still in the USA? where are you? what are you doing?
I wish I'd taken frank's camera, gotten some pictures.
She sang a song called "Damn your Ass" { I"d buy that one!
'you look so good, I want you, damn your ass!"

RE: Etta James Rocks San Francisco

Amy is in England.

I'll try to use the camera but they may not allow it at this venue.

That sucks. I know you were looking forward to that. Are you still gonna go in September then?
