iBook woes and posibilities
#26
"I made some quick flicks with your camera.
There are a bunch of settings I'm not sure what to do with.
why does it say 400 on the screen?
It looks like I can change that settinng, is it like changing the ASA on a camera?
Then there is the size of the image, it seems I can change that too.
Will making it smaller (it is set on the largest) have any effect on the Movies?
I noticed they're blurry."

No, the only size the movies can be are 640x480. It's teeny tiny. I wouldn't mess with the size of the photos either. The camera has enough memory to how around 80 shots at the highest quality. There's no sense in downgrading.

The 400 sounds like the ISO. I'm not sure. The ISO can be changed or set to "Auto" through the menu. The camera is pretty limited, but it does a decent job. The one thing it doesn't do well is taking photos when it gets too dark. Since you have zero control over the shutter speed, it makes certain situations impossible to take right.

I took one head shot of the dog and it was 1.5 mb, kinda big for me to be mailing.
My ISP went down to $59 for the year, can't bitch too much I guess.

The ibook has to be turned off when I plug in the camera?
It's plugged in now but it isn't showing on the desk top.

If I have to restart it [so it will see the camera] I won't be back on line for a while.
It still freezes when I try to restart.

Good news, I did "shut down" and it came back on after!
I Got your email, thanks Frankybonz! I turned on the camera and all was well.
I sent you some more pix of the house.
I'm anxious to try that stuff I read in the manual you sent me!
:cya: later I'm going :paparazzi:

I did a search for your freeze problem and came up with this:
First thing to do is Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in your Utility folder. No need to use the verify button, just Repair.

Next, boot into Single User Mode and run fsck

To run fsck, you first need to start up your Mac in single-user mode. Here's how:

1. Restart your Mac.

2. Immediately press and hold the Command and "S" keys.

You'll see a bunch of text begin scrolling on your screen. In a few more seconds, you'll see the Unix command line prompt (#).

You're now in single-user mode.

Now that you're at the # prompt, here's how to run fsck:

1. Type: "fsck -y" (that's fsck-space-minus-y).
(If you're running Panther, v 10.3, then type this "fsck -f"

2. Press Return.

The fsck utility will blast some text onto your screen. If there's damage to your disk, you'll see a message that says:

***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

If you see this message--and this is extremely important-- repeat running fsck. It is normal to have to run fsck more than once -- the first run's repairs often uncover additional problems..

When fsck finally reports that no problems were found, and the # prompt reappears:

3. Type: "reboot" to restart,

or type "exit" to start up without rebooting.

4. Press Return.

Your Mac should proceed to start up normally to the login window or the Finder.
I've been chicken to try that ^
today is the first day the ibook has started up and shown those windows} "checking start up disk" and "loading firewall" etc.. there are about 4 of them.
Until just now, the ibook only showed two!
Last night I ran Onyx again, deleting all the d.s. invisible files, etc..
It asked to restart but I chose "Shut down" instead & waited till this morning to open it up.
The sound is still showing it is registering something it shouldn't.. see the bar? that second one isn't supposed to be lit, it never flutters, it is "stuck" as if the sound is constant.

I have not tried that operation [hold down S key] to see if there is something damaged.
Knowing it is damaged does me no good unless it tells me how to fix it
so why bother?
It's just another thing to mess up if it "hangs" in the middle of the process!

the on-going saga remains unchanged:
the sound level is still rendering Speech Commands UN-usable &
it frequently locks up when coming out of sleep & upon restarting.
If a freeze is a spinning beach ball, my pointer does not move or spin.

I turned off ALL start up items and this shrank the # of times it stalls.
It likes to hang/freeze during it's search for a dial tone.

I've just found a app to let me clone the TIbook and hopefully I can use firewire
to install the "mind" of the TI book into the ibook and get "Vicki" back!
I haven't been able to say: Get My Mail or Turn on screen saver Sad
