I've been looking there too
Reply
there is an (un)employment office in Berkeley.
I wonder if anyone can go in and look for work?
Maybe all you need is a residence in the area?

Did you find any agencies around here?

I'd be looking at jobs within the University and the State and even the City.
Working for some thing rather than some one seems safer for your future.
Barbara works for the State.
She was working for the school distrivt, something about those old punch cards.
Then she took computer programming at the junior college and has been able to move around the state, not losing her retiremen.
She worked for the Universityof Calif. too, in their "genetic disease" branch.
From there she moved to the Public Utilities Commission in S.F. and then to the Highway patrol.
From there she is now working for C.A.L.P.I.R.G. in Sacramento.

Were you able to find a way to apply for State and or University jobs?
Reply
I found a few agencies, but they (so far) look sketchy. One place, just from their FAQ didn't look promising.

And no, I haven't thought about working for a university. That's a pretty small area for what I do, unless I want to do something that's not creative, or teach, which I don't have the credentials for.

It's crazy how I'll be there in less than 2 weeks!

and only for two weeks Sad
the more I look around me the more I see that needs fixing Confusedigh:

about UC berkeley, there are jobs unrelated to schooling.
Charles used to work at a restaurant on campus.
There is the student union, I'd go there and sniff around.
"if I enroll here what are the job prospects in this area that pay }name your wage"
in other words, getting the answer to this question will give you a clue to where to apply.
If they said you'd have to relocate to find a job in your field that would be good to know.
At Cal, I went for a counseling appointment to talk about why I should go there and what to take.
The counselor turned me off completely by saying
"we are all in this office because we can't find a job in the field we got our degree in."

the ibook is still running like crap.
I went to the mail folder and deleted all the letters in the account I think has the troubled letter
It took about five min to even begin to delete the trash.
it is going sooooo slowwww .. it is not going at all.

You should call me so we can get to each other w/o internet.
I have no budget for repairing this.

To catch up ...
Sunday I drove Frank to the southern most end of the G.G. bridge by way of G.G.park and Haight / Ashbury.
There were surfers under the bridge and boats going by.
We went by the Palace of Fine Arts but didn't go in. (The Exploratorium takes hours to see)

Monday we had lunch at Chez Panisse :yum:

Yesterday we got the toilet fixed but not the heater Sad
and we went to a few spots he'd found for Graphic Designers.

The rug is out on the front lawn.
It was so stinky I had to rip it out before Frank could stand to be in the house!
Now I gotta find a way to get rid of it ..

So funny to me! I'd washed the bedsheets from the futon but there was so much dog hair on them
any movement & you'd see the hairs fly thru the air.
That grossed Frank out so I bought the best bed sheets I have ever seen
(600 thread count) I look forward to experiencing them.

today I hope to drive to the top of Panoramic way, show him
the [best] view & get to use the digital camera he brought for me.
He said it takes short movies! It sounds fun!
I get up about 5-6 a.m. and get tired at 5-6 pm
I'm afraid I am an old fart now ...

J.D. are you reading this?
Mary fucked up.
Frank is easy to be around and he doesn't smell stinky like a lot of men do.
When he talks he looks you in the eye and his eyes focus {a sign there's someone @home.
If you could jump on a jet and come out, you two could go to all the spots I am too old for!

When I was in L.A. w/Charles I kept getting accused of being his wife :ew:
The worst was when the thought I birthed him :bebehatches:

I know no one will come up to him if I am there so
I am going to try to get him to go out with Charles or on his own.

You and me sister! Wink

Wish I was there as well now that the carpet is gone Wink

Update on me:

I've just been appointed "Marketing Communications Officer" here at my current job - which simply means they finally thought up a title for what I've already been doing for almost a year now.

"So does this mean a raise?" I asked.

"No, it's kinda like a 'lateral shift'" my ex-boss explained.

So now I'm in Marketing with a new layer of management on top of me asking me to do all sorts of shit.

"We need the website to conform to the new standard by the end of March." they said.

"Ok. I'll need Adobe CS plus Dreamweaver - licensed."

"How much is that?"

I told them.

"That much?"

"Well I could go with CS only as long as there's Go Live."

They did some figuring..."Ok, we still have budget for that."

So it got ordered, it took a couple of days for the CD's to get to me. I installed it. Illustrator (check). Photoshop (check) InDesign (check) Acrobat (check) GoLive...GoLive...There's no friggin GoLive!

So I installed GoLive CS 30 day demo in the meantime because I can't wait any longer since the fucking ugly template is there and up and if it ain't done our currently butt ugly website will remain as it is.

sigh...

I guess Franky will know what you are talking about?

Yesterday we went to Sausilito, then I took him to Telegraph Ave. {what a dive!
We drove thru the Haight last Sunday but didn't stop, too crowded!
Haight Ashbury looks better than Telegraph but there's no where like Sausilito = so pretty and friendly!

I was resting in the van while Frank walked the strip and a man came to the car
he had a big wide [santa claus] smile and he said, "your keys are in the door lock"
I swear, it feels like if you dropped your wallet you'd get it back!

Sausilito is a vision worth painting no matter where you stand or where you look.
Even the people are prettier there.
A woman police officer was walking the beat.
She said to me "cute dog" (talking about my 4 yr old) I was thinking "cute cop!"

We walked along the main street, looking in the shops.
There is a section of the main street that has access to the bay and my dog wanted so much to go for a swim!
I'm sure she could have if I were willing to let her.
We saw a seal swim by and baby crab hiding in the rocks, sunning themselves. We took pictures of a man building sculptures with rocks.
He'd pound out a spot on one so it would balance on top of another and he was making "statues" of piled rocks that looked like sentrys looking out over the water.

That street is great for people-watching! So many custom cars and bikes!
I saw a guy go by in the bike lane riding one of those self propelled standup scooters!
They cost about 3 grand and they go in the direction you lean.
I'd LOVE to live there!
It has been the same wonderful place as long as I can remember.
I used to go there for rolling papers and exotic pipes back in 1970.

I got an ice cream cone for $3 {that is a lot! but it was Deeelicious! :yum:

"what is good :luck: "} having the ibook break
just at the right time so Frank would be here to fix it.

He was able to replace the hard drive [with one twice as big]
and replace 128 of ram with 512 .. I can't wait to try it :bounce:

I guess he better not move out here or this forum will curl up!

Fixing that iBook has become a story on its own. Replacing the HD was a big pain in the ass! I'm pissed that it has been freezing ever since though.

I wish I could say that things work better over here on average. The place I had been freelancing at has been better than most places I have worked at, but they still have issues with people having mix-matched software and fonts. As usual, I end up playing tech support just to make my own life easier.

I don't have time for starting from scratch to learn how to fix this.
I'm spent in more ways than one.
any suggestions?

things are not proceeding smoothly with the dozens of things that must be done
before I see any cash come in.

I am not going on line for anything but things that will make me money.
.. searched craig's list today, crossing fingers I find a NICE person with MONEY!

she was so thrilled, for her not to show up makes me think my radar is trashed.
Minuette had to be put down yesterday.
then the young one came into heat...
I doubt Ted an make puppies but if he did what then?

These 3 old guys probably won't make it thru the next year.
she and I will be all by our selves if she doesn't do something this time.
And if she does, do I move again?

at the dog park they are planning more building .. right on top of my spot!

this goddamn world sucks too much for me.

Awww... Sorry to hear that.

Are you hoping for "the young one" to get pregnant?

"Are you hoping for "the young one" to get pregnant?"

I was till I saw a bunch of bueaucrats at the dog park, mapping out my favorite spot for some more damn buidling..more of their evil commerce.

I realized yesterday that it has been years since I 've had picnics and barbiques like we used to do all the time.
There is no one to have them with!

I'm feeling pretty pissed off and disillusioned.
I am not feeling "fun" so then pups wouldn't like to live with me.

Del is starting to talk about "when she gets too old to do things for herself"{my support system goes when she does.

Colleen called but as soon as she heard I was on a bummer over losing Minuette she rushed off the line rather than try to cheer me up.

Gail called, she was a real help.
Talking to her made me feel better but she has been w/o kidneys since 4/20/06
It is still a balancing act to keep her alive.
She said she wants to visit and will come out for lunch as soon as she is able.
She actually had me laughing and feeling good till we had to hang up.
I've only seen her twice in two years, it just isn't enough!

Sure I'd like pups from these guys or the whole line ends here.
.. then there is the reality of what that would mean if I am over the dog limit again.
I am still waiting for something to feel fun enough to reach for it!

thanks to you and to Norhfork for coming here.
It is the only social life I have now.

Armed Miss America 1944 stops intruder

Fri Apr 20, 8:16 PM ET

WAYNESBURG, Ky. -
Miss America 1944 has a talent that likely has never appeared on a beauty pageant stage: She fired a handgun to shoot out a vehicle's tires and stop an intruder.

Venus Ramey, 82, confronted a man on her farm in south-central Kentucky last week after she saw her dog run into a storage building where thieves had previously made off with old farm equipment.

Ramey said the man told her he would leave. "I said, 'Oh, no you won't,' and I shot their tires so they couldn't leave," Ramey said.

She had to balance on her walker as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun.

"I didn't even think twice. I just went and did it," she said. "If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now."

Ramey then flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911.

Curtis Parrish of Ohio was charged with misdemeanor trespassing, Deputy Dan Gilliam said. The man's hometown wasn't immediately available. Three other people were questioned but were not arrested.

After winning the pageant with her singing, dancing and comedic talents, Ramey sold war bonds and her picture was adorned on a B-17 that made missions over Germany in World War II, according to the Miss America Web site.

Ramey lived in Cincinnati for several years and was instrumental in helping rejuvenate Over-the-Rhine historic buildings. She returned to Kentucky in 1990 to live on her farm.

"I'm trying to live a quiet, peaceful life and stay out of trouble, and all it is, is one thing after another," she said.

bad, bad! they listed me in the wrong Albany! as in N.Y.'s .. now I can't find my listinng anywhere on their site!
I am getting pissed off by all the rejection, I feel it is part the house and partly me they do not warm up to.
yesterday I didn't go there, it is just too draining!
never ending mess, clean one thing and ten more come into view.

there are [suddenly] tons of other openings for rent at cheaper prices, mostly 2 bedroom apartments.
